Berlin Science Week | Science for All: Diverse Voices on the Box

Soapbox Science Berlin, LGBTQ+ STEM Berlin

02.11.2024 | CAMPUS | Museum for Natural History Berlin · 12:00 - 14:00 Uhr

Soapbox Science's mission is to promote diversity and inclusion in the scientific community and provide a platform where all voices and perspectives can be heard.

Soapbox Science Berlin participates in this year's Berlin Science Week (CAMPUS) with the event ‘Science for all: Diverse Voices on the Box’.

"Who is a scientist? At this short talks event women* and LGBTQ+ scientists present on a range of topics.
Soapbox Science Berlin and LGBTQ+ in STEM Berlin present a series of bite-sized talks highlighting groundbreaking research across fields including neuroscience, computer science, agriculture, and climate science. Women* and LGBTQ+ (lesbian, gay, bi, trans queer, +) speakers will present their work, demonstrating how their diverse perspectives contribute to innovation and scientific progress. Whether you're a science enthusiast or just curious, this laid-back event offers an engaging way to learn something new and be part of exciting conversations."

One of the speakers is IGZ scientist Artem Filipenko. The PhD student develops resource-optimised production systems for controlled cultivation in greenhouses and indoor farms and expands these systems to include co-production and recirculation systems such as fish and plants in aquaponics.

"The future of farming is clean

The talk will be about my PhD project and cover the concept of aquaponics in general as a cool way to save resources during production of food and leave as small an environmental footprint as possible. After this part I will describe in detail which directions are chosen to optimize and improve aquaponics."
