Camilla Hörsch joined the Leibniz Institute of Vegetable and Ornamental Crops (IGZ) in 2023 as a doctoral student in the Programme Area "Plant Adaptation". Here, she investigates the molecular basis of how plants perceive temperature and can adapt to it.

During her Master's thesis at Freie Universität Berlin, she worked on elucidating of these mechanisms in plants under the supervision of her current doctoral supervisor Prof Dr Philip Wigge. In addition, Camilla Hörsch was also involved in teaching plant sciences at the FU Berlin, including in the fields of botany and systematic biology.

Since the first year of her doctorate, the molecular biologist has been involved as a doctoral student spokesperson at IGZ. Together with another doctoral student, she represents the interests of doctoral students within the IGZ and is in regular contact with the Leibniz PhD Network, an interdisciplinary network of the Leibniz Association.

In our short interview on the occasion of this year's International Women's Day, we asked Camilla Hörsch about her motivation and what she would like to pass on to future young female scientists in particular.

International Women's Day
International Women's Day on 8 March has a long history as a symbol for the fight for women's rights. For more than a century, this day has been used to highlight injustices, demand equality and celebrate the achievements of women. It plays a central role in raising awareness of gender-specific challenges and promoting women in all areas of life. In the context of research at IGZ, International Women's Day emphasises the role of female scientists who enrich the landscape of plant and horticultural science with their commitment and expertise.
