Prof Dr Tilman Brück, head of the "Zero Hunger Lab"

In this KOSMOS lecture, Prof Dr Tilman Brück will outline how economic research can help overcome hunger for some of the most vulnerable women, men and children around the world. Based on his research in Africa, the Middle East and Asia, Prof. Brück will explain how multiple risks like violence, fragility, displacement and climate shocks can combine to hurt people’s lives, livelihoods and food security. He will also outline how interventions can help people overcome hunger.

Brück was accepted into the Heisenberg Programme of the German Research Foundation (DFG) in 2022 and was appointed for life with the Leibniz Institute of Vegetable and Ornamental Crops (IGZ) at the Thaer Institute of Agricultural and Horticultural Sciences at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (HU). His Heisenberg Professorship is entitled "Economic Development and Food Security". He heads the "Zero Hunger Lab", a cross-location working group between the HU and the IGZ. The Zero Hunger Lab conducts research into the causes, forms and consequences of hunger and into strengthening food security, particularly in crisis situations.
