Book a Scientist ‑ digital Speeddating with Science

08.04.2022 | Online · 10:00 - 15:00 Uhr

On April 8, 2022, the online event  Book a Scientist will take place again. For the first time this year, all those who are curious and thirsty for knowledge will have the chance to talk to an expert from the Leibniz Association for 25 minutes.  To our joy, we are participating again this time!

Sandra Kerbler can be booked for a talk on the highly actual topic of “Food in 2050: Understanding how to grow agricultural crops in a changing climate”
(10.00 o’clock)

“In contrast to many other pathways in plants, such as light signalling, hormone perception and pathogen responses where the receptors and signalling pathways have been elucidated, the primary mechanisms of temperature perception are still poorly understood. We use the model system Arabidopsis thaliana to uncover fundamental mechanisms, and we aim to transfer this knowledge to other plants, including agricultural and horticultural crops. We are using a combination of genetic, biochemical and bioinformatic approaches to identify key signalling components and the underlying transcriptional and translational regulatory networks of the temperature sensing pathways.”

Charlotte Brinkmann is looking forward to an exchange with you on the topic of: Plants can get sick, too: Understanding plant diseases to secure food in the future
(10.30 o’clock | 13.30 o’clock | 14.00 o’clock)

“Like people, plants can also become ill, for example due to bacteria, viruses or fungi. Infestation of crops is a major problem, as it leads to major crop losses. Understanding how plants become diseased and transferring this knowledge into the breeding of resistant varieties is important to secure food in the future.”

To reserve an online meeting with either of our scientists, send an email to  veranstaltungen@leibniz-gemeinschaft.de, with your name, chosen topic, and desired time slot. You will receive a confirmation email if the time slot is still available. We have crossed out time slots that are no longer available. Availability is updated regularly, but can change at short notice and is therefore not guaranteed. Book a Scientist is of course free of charge.
