Long Night of Sciences 2025
28.06.2025 | Berlin, Leibniz Association's Headquarters · 17:00 - 24:00 Uhr
Experience science up close! Be there again when research institutions, universities and laboratories open their doors and offer an exclusive look behind the scenes. Discover innovative technologies, fascinating experiments and ground-breaking findings at first hand.
On Saturday, 28 June 2025, the Long Night of Sciences (LNDW) celebrates its 25th anniversary and invites all curious minds to discover the world of science in a new way. From 5 pm to midnight, numerous scientific and science-related institutions offer a varied programme for young and old - with live demonstrations, lectures, hands-on stations and exclusive insights into current research projects.
In its 25th anniversary year, the Leibniz Institute of Vegetable and Ornamental Crops (IGZ) will once again be taking part. As part of the Leibniz research network ‘Green Nutrition - Healthy Society’ coordinated by the Deutsches Insitut für Ernährungsforschung (DIfE), we will be presenting ourselves at the LNDW in the Haus der Leibniz-Gemeinschaft in Berlin Mitte.
Sustainable nutrition with all your senses
Global food systems face significant challenges. The Leibniz Research Network 'Green Nutrition – Healthy Society' is developing scientific solutions for a sustainable future. Four partner institutes from Potsdam (ATB), Potsdam-Rehbruecke (DIfE), Großbeeren (IGZ) and Freising (LSB) will offer an immersive experience of sustainable nutrition using all your senses and address questions such as: What does sunburn on fruit look like and how can it be prevented? Why is cabbage valuable for a healthy diet? How is sustainable cheese ripening achieved? And what do edible insects smell like?
Special programme highlight by IGZ: Smoothie Science – Understanding nutrients, enjoying health (10–10.30 p.m.)
Which smoothie will it be? You decide which health benefits to focus on – and choose the ingredients. We’ll show you at the IGZ stand what makes cabbage so nutritious and what happens to its valuable nutrients during blending. Watch science turn into flavour right before your eyes. Finally, it's time to taste – give it a try!
About the Leibniz Research Network „Green Nutrition - Healthy Society“
Global food systems are crucial for human and planetary health, but face major challenges due to the growing world population and climate change. The Leibniz Research Network ‘Green Nutrition – Healthy Society’ generates solutions for the transition to optimal and sustainable nutrition through interdisciplinary scientific exchange.
