Careers in plant research up close
Future Day | Girls‘ Day
03.04.2025 | IGZ, Großbeeren · 08:30 - 12:00 Uhr
How does a passion for plants become an exciting profession? The Leibniz Institute of Vegetable and Ornamental Crops (IGZ) will show you the different careers behind plant research and the exciting activities that await you at a plant research institute.
At the IGZ, you can take a look behind the scenes and try out jobs for yourself. In small groups, you will pass through various stations where our staff will introduce you to their professions and activities:
Laboratory: technical assistants and scientists at work
How do biologists and technical assistants work in the laboratory? You will learn the basics of pipetting and get to try your hand at molecular biology methods.
Experimental operations: plant care in everyday research
What does the job of a gardener in a research institute involve? Here you will learn how plants are grown, prepared for experiments and later cared for. You will be able to pot up plants yourself and learn about the day-to-day work of gardeners.
Infrastructures: technology for plant research
Our Craftspeople and metrologist/instrumentation technician will show you how state-of-the-art technology is used in research - for example in climate chambers. Here you will learn how different areas work together to create different climate conditions for plant research.
About the Brandenburg Future Day (Zukunftstag)
Young people from year 7 onwards can try out professions directly on site in the company or digitally and discover their dream job - completely independent of outdated role clichés.
This is the 23rd time that Future Day is taking place! Since 2003, we have been supporting girls and boys on their path to a professional future. With this accumulated knowledge and the experience of the past two decades, we would like to strengthen career guidance in the state of Brandenburg once again.
